Progress that went unreported!

Remember back in July I decided I would take a break on the lambs? And decided to replace them with Snow Valley Express? Well, somehow in the midst of first trimester morning sickness, then traveling to the mainland for 2 weeks, then coming home and the holiday hooplah starting, I forgot to share what bit of progress I DID make on Snow Valley.

So, here it is as it looks now....

This is how it looked when I picked it up then...
I filled alot in on the right hand side, under the bridge and the last couple of train cars got a lot of fill in. I think that once I finish my lambs, I am going to pull this sucker out and focus on finishing it for my dads birthday in May for next year! This has been a birthday/christmas gift for him for the past 5 years (depending on "Oops, I missed his b-day guess I'll shoot for Chirstmas") It's just that this one is NOT fun to work on!!! It is.....blah! The colors are all dark and dreary, the pattern is hard to follow, and the charted backstitch...ugh...don't get me started! It's just not pulling me in to work on it!!! (Which is why it's continually getting shoved off the map!) And I hate feeling this way about it, because it IS a gift, and you're supposed to feel good about wanting to give, and have furvor for a gifty type piece of stitching, knowing that the recipient will love what you made and yet......I have a feeling that once I finish this piece I will never want to see the thing EVER again! Humph.....Ok, off to work on Lyssa's Quilt Lambs!!! (See? smiling with that thought!)

Great progress Lana! It reminds me of the train I saw last night. Only this one was fully decorated with lights for Christmas. It was awesome!

Hi Lana,

I'm new to the blog, and all I can say is, "Wow!". Great work! Congrats on baby in utero. Oh, I miss those times. I love carrying babies inside! Can wait to see more progress!

P.S. Where you would have geckos coming in? Ugh! :)

P.P.S. Why do you set stitching hours, or keep track of your stitching hours? How does that help you?

Hishandmaid- Thank you for visiting and following my blog! And to answer your questions....I live in Japan, on an very small island, with alot of jungle on it,so the geckos are around...lol...I don't always set hours for my stitching, just every so often if there's a project I realize has gone unworked on for awhile, like Howling at the Moon, which is a MONSTER of a project...9 page pattern....I will set a "goal" to help myself stay focused, it helps me work toward something, and makes me feel good about myself if I complete it, even if I don't I am able to look at the time I put into it, and be proud of what I DID do. =) God Bless!

This train will be beautiful when it is done. I have worked on pieces that I didnt like also. I try to piece patterns more carefully, sometimes it still doesn't help. You made wonderful progress. Thank you for visiting my blog. I am a new follower.

when backstitching it helps to not use the chard but the photo of the finished project. Only where it really matters I use the chard, for instance eyes and birdsbeaks. In following the backstitches of the photo, when necessary enlarge on a photocopier or your printer, you can use your own "handwriting" in backstitching, I find it works out for me instead of counting threads.Imagine your a passenger on the train, would you not want to arrive?
